Frequently Asked Questions & Fees
General Information
What is a neuropsychological evaluation?
A neuropsychological evaluation is a detailed assessment of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. It involves standardized testing, medical record review, and interviews to understand memory, attention, problem-solving, language, and executive function. The goal is to identify strengths, challenges, and provide personalized recommendations for treatment, academic support, or workplace planning.
Who can benefit from a neuropsychological assessment?
Neuropsychological assessments are valuable for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults experiencing memory problems, attention difficulties, learning challenges, or cognitive changes after injury or illness. They are also helpful for academic planning, workplace accommodations, concussion recovery, and legal or disability documentation.
How is Dr. Davis’ approach to neuropsychological evaluation different?
Dr. Davis integrates traditional neuropsychology with evidence-based digital tools to make evaluations more accessible, timely, and efficient. All tests selected for remote use are validated for telehealth administration or have been shown through peer-reviewed research to be equivalent to traditional paper-and-pencil methods.
Her process-focused approach allows for real-time adaptation of the assessment—adding measures when new concerns emerge or streamlining testing when appropriate. This ensures accurate, clinically meaningful results without unnecessary burden on the patient.
By uncovering the root causes of cognitive or behavioral challenges, Dr. Davis provides personalized recommendations and, when appropriate, same-day reports that directly support medical, academic, and workplace decisions.
What diagnoses do you evaluate?
Dr. Davis provides comprehensive neuropsychological and cognitive evaluations for a wide range of medical, neurological, and developmental conditions that affect thinking, memory, attention, and daily functioning. Common diagnoses include:
- Memory and cognitive decline – mild cognitive impairment, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease
- Attention and learning disorders – ADHD, learning disabilities, academic challenges
- Brain injuries – concussion, traumatic brain injury (TBI)
- Neurological disorders – seizure disorders, multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease, stroke
- Executive function difficulties – planning, organization, problem-solving deficits
- Mood and emotional impacts – anxiety, depression, adjustment after injury or illness
- Workplace or functional impairments – accommodations, return-to-work evaluations
Logistics & Preparation
Can I complete the evaluation remotely?
Yes! Most academic and clinical evaluations can be completed remotely using secure telehealth technology. Remote evaluations improve access for patients who live far from the office or have mobility limitations. Caregivers can assist when patients need help navigating forms or virtual sessions.
What kind of device should I use for my remote evaluation?
A laptop or desktop computer is strongly recommended for the best testing accuracy. Larger screens make tasks easier to complete and reduce the chance of errors. Tablets can work in many cases, but phones are not recommended due to screen size limitations.
Do I need a reliable internet connection?
Yes. A stable, high-speed internet connection is essential for smooth video and test administration.
What other technical requirements should I know?
- A quiet, private environment free from distractions.
- Headphones with a microphone are recommended for clear communication.
- Close all unused programs and browser tabs to avoid interruptions.
- Have your device fully charged or plugged in during testing.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Preparation helps ensure accurate results. Complete all intake forms and questionnaires before your session. For remote evaluations, ensure a quiet, well-lit space and a reliable internet connection. Bring relevant medical, educational, or workplace documents, and if needed, a caregiver can assist with technical challenges during the session.
How long will my evaluation appointment last?
- Remote Memory & Dementia Evaluation: 2–3 hours
- Academic & Workplace Accommodation Evaluations: 2–3 hours
- Forensic Brain Injury & Concussion Evaluations: 4–5 hours (in-person)
Testing is flexible and adapted in real time to each client’s presentation.
Will insurance cover my neuropsychological evaluation?
Most virtual neuropsychological evaluations and forensic assessments provided by Dr. Davis are not covered by insurance. For in-person clinical evaluations, Dr. Davis is contracted with ThoughtWise LLC and accepts select insurance plans, but coverage is not guaranteed, and same-day reports are not available through insurance. For predictable scheduling and fast access, self-pay options are recommended.
What is your refund, cancellation, and rescheduling policy?
- Refunds: Payments are generally non-refundable once testing materials or staff time are allocated. Exceptions may be made for extraordinary circumstances; contact us directly. Clients are encouraged to complete all tests with their best effort. If an evaluation is invalidated due to underperformance, inconsistent responding, or overreporting of symptoms, this does not constitute a reason for a refund.
- Cancellations: Please cancel at least 48 hours in advance to allow another client to schedule. Late cancellations may incur a partial fee.
- No-Shows: Clients who miss their appointment without notice may forfeit the full session fee.
- Rescheduling: We are happy to reschedule appointments with at least 48 hours’ notice, subject to availability.
Specialized Evaluations
Will my school or employer accept the evaluation?
Our Academic & Workplace Accommodation Evaluations provide clear, actionable documentation for schools and employers. While conditions such as ADHD or learning disabilities may be covered by insurance, communication with schools or employers is typically not included. Self-pay ensures timely access to documentation without insurance delays.
Why choose an independent psychoeducational evaluation?
Independent evaluations provide an objective second opinion when school testing may be incomplete or inaccurate. Dr. Davis offers comprehensive cognitive and academic testing, highlighting strengths, challenges, and providing recommendations for academic planning and effective self-advocacy.
My attorney told me to get a evaluation for brain injury & concussion. Is it covered by insurance?
Brain Injury & Concussion Evaluations are generally self-pay due to their forensic and legal nature. These in-person evaluations assess the severity of concussion, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and related cognitive concerns from sports, accidents or workplace injuries. Reports are thorough but same-day results are not available because of their forensic nature. Learn more at the CDC TBI Guidelines.
Can I take a remote cognitive test after a car accident and use it for my legal case?
No. Remote cognitive tests used for clinical purposes do not meet the Daubert criteria required for legal admissibility. Attorneys typically require a full in-person forensic evaluation for defensible results in court.
Efficiency & Outcomes
Why are your evaluations shorter than other clinics’ assessments?
Dr. Davis uses a core-flexible, targeted approach emphasizing referral questions and clinically relevant domains. Unlike traditional full-day testing driven by billing needs, this approach reduces unnecessary tests and patient fatigue while maintaining accuracy. Research and AACN guidelines support brief, focused batteries as valid for many clinical settings.
How do you provide same-day reports when my previous doctor took weeks?
Traditional evaluations often take 1–2 weeks due to lengthy test batteries, manual scoring, and insurance processes. Dr. Davis uses digital tools and real-time scoring to generate same-day feedback and reports without compromising accuracy.
Why Choose Self-Pay with an Out-of-Network Specialist?
Dr. Alexandra Davis is an out-of-network neuropsychologist serving Florida. This approach removes insurance restrictions, giving clients faster access, greater privacy, and evaluations tailored to their needs. Your time is valuable—you deserve a quick yet comprehensive evaluation that delivers clear answers without months of waiting. For many families and professionals, self-pay is the most direct path to timely diagnosis and meaningful support.
Don’t wait weeks or months for clarity. Your time is valuable, and you deserve timely, accurate answers. Take the next step toward peace of mind— Schedule your evaluation today.
Why Self-Pay Makes Sense?
- Timely access: Skip long waitlists and get scheduled quickly—essential for students needing accommodations before exams, professionals requiring workplace/legal documentation, or families worried about early memory decline.
- Comprehensive testing: Evaluations follow clinical best practices, not billing codes. This allows for in-depth assessment of complex or co-existing conditions like anxiety, depression, or autism.
- Coverage gaps: Insurance rarely covers school accommodations, adult ADHD testing, or early dementia evaluations when primary care screeners appear “normal.” Self-pay ensures you can still access needed care.
- Privacy and control: You decide if, when, and where information is shared—with a school, employer, or other organizations—without fear of impacting future opportunities.
- Flexible remote care: Secure tele-neuropsychology brings expert evaluations to you—perfect for rural communities, clients with limited mobility, or anyone who wants to save time, reduce stress, and avoid long commutes.
Choosing self-pay means direct access, no insurance hassles, and evaluations that prioritize accuracy, privacy, and your timeline. Explore our Services or schedule a consultation today.
